DRI UTILITY COST FORECASTING

CONTENTS/SUBJECTS:
The DRI Utility Cost Forecasting data banks provide forecasts for electric and gas utility construction and
operation and maintenance (O&M) costs for specific inputs and for entire facilities, plants, and systems. The
Handy-Whitman Index of Public Utility Construction Costs defines the construction cost forecast coverage. The
O&M cost coverage is based on information in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) Uniform
System of Accounts for electric and gas utilities. Forecasts of utility cost indices include: Cost inputs - pumps,
gas compressors, steam pipes, gas and electric meters, concrete and pipefitters; Facilities - electric distribution
station equipment and gas transmission compressor station equipment; Plants - hydro production plants and
gas storage plants; Systems - a total electric production, transmission, and distribution plant.

regions world-wide, detailing imports and exports for 43 commodities ranging from live animals to electronic

volume measures of trade. Volume measures are developed by DRI and combine information on exchange
